What this program does
Bastrop County EMS gives out free naloxone kits to reverse opioid overdoses in the field. An opioid overdose is one of the few medical emergencies a bystander can safely and effectively reverse. So getting naloxone into more hands means more lives saved.
Every kit is free. There is no cost and no barrier to getting one.
How kits reach the community
- Handed out directly during 911 responses when crews identify an at-risk community member
- Distributed at community events
- Provided at BCEMS "Breathe Now" trainings
- Targeted outreach to locations and people identified through Bastrop County Public Health, BCEMS, and community partners
This program is built on partnership. Bastrop County Public Health helps supply education material and resource lists that go into every kit, and it is funded in part through the Texas Targeted Opioid Response program.
